Starting Your Collection

Did you know that doll collecting is very popular in the United States? So, be a part of the many people that enjoy collecting dolls. You might make alot of friends that enjoy this hobby. Here's a doll collector's club that you can join.

What kind of doll are you interested in collecting? Do you like porcelain dolls, baby dolls, dolls from a certain ethnic background, sixties dolls?

There are many companies that you can buy dolls from. Just to list a few examples would be Ashton-Drake, Barbie, and popular artist dolls.

Dolls are made from porcelain, hard plastic, bisque, vinyl and many more different kinds of materials. I have some dolls pictured made from resin. This is a relatively different material.

Maybe you're interested in used dolls. These dolls can be found on ebay, garage sales, and many other places. Antique dealers in your area may have some antique dolls for sale.

Dolls like many types of collectibles can be worth more depending on the type of doll. They can even be quite an investment. So, be careful when starting your collection because it can become quite an expensive or inexpensive hobby depending on what type of doll that you start your collection with. You might not want to invest too much in your collection in the beginning until you decide on which type of doll that really interests you. And if you're like me your taste sometimes changes.

You might want to consider how much space you have in your home before you decide on the size of the dolls you might want to collect. For instance the larger porcelain dolls do require a large area. Some of these dolls are too large to place in a glass cabinet. But if you have a large area to place your collection, this is even better.

The vintage or smaller dolls can sometimes be placed in a glass cabinet depending on the size of the doll. I also collect the vintage 50's dolls, bisque antique dolls and smaller porcelain dolls (Pauline dolls). These dolls can be placed in cabinets if you're limited in your amount of space. I will be adding pictures of these dolls.

So, enjoy your collecting and please send me your questions. I will be posting more information such as how to indentify your dolls and some types of vintage and modern collectible dolls.
